A 76-year-old man was arrested Monday, accused of shooting at a woman and her dog.
Gastonia police charged Howard James Gibbie with assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Gibbie fired a 16-gauge shotgun in the direction of a 29-year-old woman who was walking her dog on Mary Avenue. Both Gibbie and the woman live on Mary Avenue.
The woman told police that her dog and Gibbie’s dog got into an altercation, the scene escalated into an argument between the dog owners, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Gibbie then shouted racial slurs and fired the shotgun in the direction of the woman and her dog, the warrant states.
Gibbie was taken to Gaston County Jail and assigned a $10,000 secured bond.
