A man died this weekend during an attempted theft at a local auto parts business.
Daniel Yount, 28, of Rutherford County, was underneath an elevated car at Auto Parts of Shelby when the car fell on him and killed him early Sunday morning, said Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman. Yount was trying to steal catalytic converters when the accident happened, Norman said.
“We received a 911 call early Sunday morning from a woman saying a vehicle had fallen on her friend,” Norman said. “The individual elevated the car with a jack once he got to the property, and then once underneath the vehicle, the jack gave way.”
“We believe he was removing the converters for possible resale,” he said.
Dawn Bradley, 32, was with Yount at the time of the accident. She was charged with larceny and trespassing and may face additional charges, Norman said.
The case is still under investigation.
