A local automotive business was destroyed by flames Friday after a car caught fire, according to the Cleveland County Fire Marshal’s office.

Bobby Horton, fire inspector with the fire marshal’s office, said a car was being welded at NRP Automotive on Cherryville Road when it caught fire about noon.

The business is just southwest of Waco.

Workers tried to put the fire out but were unsucessful.

Horton said the building was “a total loss.”

He said he could not provide information about who owned the business.

According to Cleveland County GIS, the property is listed to Richard Edwards Jr.

The property owner could not be reached for comment Friday.

The road was closed for about an hour as firefighters from Waco Community Volunteer Fire Department, Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department and Fallston Volunteer Fire Department put out the flames and sprayed water on the smoking wreckage.
