Spring cleaning at a local library means bargains for book lovers.
The annual Morris Library book and magazine sale kicked off this week on the Dallas campus of Gaston College.
More than 500 reference, fiction and textbooks are for sale to the public through April 11.
The library normally holds a magazine sale in the spring and a book sale in the fall.
Plans to combine the two this year resulted in tables and carts full of college-related texts about psychology, nursing, history, literature, math, chemistry and the legal system.
There are dictionaries, books about North Carolina law and paperback romance novels.
Libby Stone, public services librarian, doesn’t think any current textbooks are offered in the sale.
But some are just a few years old and can be used for research. Others, including language translation guides, remain useful.
“You really have to dig through to find something you like,” Stone said.
Most of the books come from the library’s collection. Others have been donated by students and community supporters.
A variety of magazines are also for sale. Titles range from Sports Illustrated and Rolling Stone to Vogue and Time magazine.
Some bundles feature every issue for an entire year.
“Some students have projects where they have to make collages,” Stone said. “They can cut out pictures and use it for that.”
