Deputies say a Gaston County Jail inmate was smoking marijuana in his cell Sunday.
An officer searched the cell where Jerry Ray Hensley was being held.
According to the arrest warrant, the officer smelled marijuana in the cell and on Hensley.
Officers reportedly found a pile of green leafy matter on a shelf that appeared to be marijuana. They also found a plastic bag with fecal matter and the suspected marijuana stuck to it, according to the warrant affidavit.
Hensley, 38, of Cherryville, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.
He was assigned a $4,000 secured bond.
