An 89-year-old Gaston County man died Friday morning in a single vehicle traffic wreck.
Cecil Jenkins, of Hope Drive, Dallas, was pronounced dead at CaroMont RegionalMedical Center.
According to Highway Patrol Sgt. D.L. Litaker, Jenkins was driving north on Philadelphia Church Road near Colt Thornburg Road outside Dallas when he crashed. The wreck happened at 11:57 a.m.
Heavy rain overnight had left the roads slick. Jenkins hydroplaned and ran off the road to the right before hitting a culvert in a ditch, Litaker said. The impact broke his neck, he said.
Jenkins was driving a four-door Mitsubishi. “It’s just one of those unfortunate situations,” Litaker said.
Jenkins was alone in the car at the time of the accident. He leaves behind at least one daughter from High Shoals.
