Gastonia Police Sgt. Trent Conard made two stops this morning on his way into work - both of them to stop and help people having trouble getting on their way this morning. He told the story not to take credit for himself, but to remind people that while the sun may come out and improve road conditions Friday, things are still tough going this morning.
Roads are still slippery in a lot of places, and slick spots exists on main thoroughfares. Side roads and neighborhood roads remain icy and dangerous.
"Hopefully it will warm up and melt a lot of this away," Conard said. "We've had a lot of people getting stuck so people need to be careful."
Roads should be in much better shape by 10 or 11 a.m., he said, although secondary roads may take a while longer.
