When the restaurant opened a year ago and gave re-birth to the famous fish camp name, Wes Lineberger was involved in the business. His grandparents, Luther and Stella Lineberger, opened the original Lineberger’s Fish Fry in 1948.
Greene said he and Wes Lineberger dissolved their business partnership last May. And since none of the Lineberger family members is in the kitchen, the restaurant name needed changing.
The restaurant now serves country-style food daily, instead of only on Sundays.
Greene said that’s another reason for changing the name.
Fish prepared with the Lineberger recipe and cooking style can still be ordered. A portrait of Greene is printed on the new Mr. T’s Place sign on Union Road.
He doesn’t have a Mohawk and isn’t wearing gold chains, like the star of the 1980s show “The A-Team.”
But Greene hopes his smiling face serves as a warm greeting to customers looking for a good meal. He operates the restaurant with his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Larry Walker.
Within a year, he’d like to turn it all over to them and retire after 41 years managing various restaurants.
Lineberger’s Fish Fry used to be located on South New Hope Road. It sold to new owners 50 years after opening, but fire destroyed the building soon after. New owners rebuilt the building. It’s now home to Amber Jack Seafood and Steaks.
