Lincolnton welcomed state NAACP President William J. Barber II as a special guest for Wednesday’s civil rights rally.

The event was in the Lincolnton court square.

The rally, “Taking the Dream Home to Lincolnton,” was part of a statewide movement encouraging all communities to remember the historic March on Washington on its 50th anniversary.

Thirteen other rallies were scheduled across the state. The rally sprang from the Moral Monday and Forward Together movements.

Participants also sought to voice opposition to the newly passed voter ID law and other acts of the North Carolina General Assembly, according to the North Carolina NAACP website.
