A woman faces DWI charges after officers found her slumped over the steering wheel of a car sitting in a fast food drive through, according to Shelby police.
Police responded to a call on Sunday of a Honda sitting in the drive-through at the McDonald’s near Shelby High School and the driver slumped over the steering wheel, according to a Shelby police report. Here's what happened, according to the report:
The woman, Brianna Marie Edmondson, 22, was blocking the drive-through with her vehicle. “Upon speaking with Ms. Edmondson, I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about her breath,” an officer stated in the police report.
Edmondson attempted to call someone on her cell phone, telling the person on the phone that she was in Gastonia. She submitted to an alco-sensor test, but “was unable to follow instructions,” according to the report.
Edmondson gave two breath samples, the lower of which was 0.20, more than twice the legal limit of below 0.08. She was charged with impaired driving/DWI and was held on a $2,500 secured bond.
