Authorities have identified a man who died in an industrial plant accident Saturday morning in Lincoln County.
Marendonio Francisco Viruel Lopez, 35, of 1007 Grazing Meadows Court, of Lincolnton, was fatally injured when he became caught in a Holzmann angular saw that he was operating. The incident occurred at plant #2 at RSI Home Products Manufacturing Inc., at 838 Lincoln County Parkway.
Lopez suffered “traumatic injuries,” according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to CMC-Lincoln at 8:28 a.m., but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Lopez had been working at the plant for about eight years under a false name, according to Lincoln County detectives.
RSI, with corporate offices based in Anaheim, Calif., bills itself as America’s premier manufacturer of cabinetry. The company has locations around the country, where it manufacturers materials for kitchen and bath cabinets and counters, according to the company website.
OSHA is investigating the incident.
