Several Kings Mountain High students were arrested at the school Wednesday in connection with a recent off-campus fight, according to school officials.
The fight occurred last Friday outside the Kings Mountain YMCA, said Donna Carpenter, public information director for Cleveland County Schools.
“This week there were calls to the school and rumors circulating that something had happened or was about to happen at the high school,” Carpenter said. “We increased security for these reasons and six students were arrested by Kings Mountain Police.”
Kings Mountain Police referred questions to the high school's resource officer for further comment on the incident and subsequent charges. The resource officer did not return calls Wednesday.
Kings Mountain High Principal Ronnie Funderburke said on Wednesday there was no incident on campus and no school system disciplinary action had been taken against any students.
